Distributed energy resources (DER ) are new technologies with enormous potential to revolutionize the electricity system. DERs include hybrid renewables (e.g. solar or wind combined with storage), standalone energy storage, advanced inverter functionality, interruptible load, direct load control, behavioral load shaping, energy efficiency, and more. Microgrids to national grids could all be transformed by DERs.
But most DERs have been difficult to scale up. In 2020, however, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued Order 2222, which removed barriers to adding DERs to the electric grid.
Join our distinguished panel as we discuss what these changes mean for the future of the American energy market.
